While Florida Republicans have introduced two related proposals—one to study the impact of elimination and another to raise the homestead exemption—critics warn that property taxes fund essential local services like schools, roads, and emergency response. Eliminating them would leave a $43 billion revenue gap, potentially leading to deep budget cuts or increased sales taxes.
